AN ANCIENT APPROACH THAT USES RHYTHM TO PROMOTE HEALING & SELF EXPRESSION

HISTORY

The frame drum is said to be the oldest known drum. Variations of the drum can be found  in civilisations all over the world. It can carry musical as well as sacred and ceremonial association. Drums are used for shamanic purposes by tribal peoples to connect to the spirit world. Historically it was women who were the drummers of a community; they were seen to be the divine connection to mother earth and Great Spirit.

One of the fundamental things we know about the universe is that everything in it is vibrating, is a motion and has rhythm which is the true Mother Tongue that unites us all, and it started with the big bang. When giant meteorites crash into the planet with force, the earth vibrates like a drum and shamans over the world know that the drum is Great Spirits favourite instrument, which is why we are all given a heartbeat.

The drum is the most ancient instrument in the world dating back tens of thousands of years. It has been used within healing work, ritual and ceremony, rites of passage, divination, celebration and moving between the worlds. Drums and drum making reflect all that is traditional in Indian country – respect for the animals, trees, sacred plants, fire and the people you want the drum to sing for.

SCIENCE

Sound healing is the practice of using audio tones and vibration frequencies to repair damaged tissues and cells within the physical and energetic body. It works on the idea that all matter is vibrating at specific frequencies, and sickness, disease, depression and stress cause human beings to vibrate at a lower frequency. Playing tones that promote healing, happiness and vitality will allow DNA strands from all energetic levels to repair themselves.

Sound has been used as a healing tool for centuries and is still regularly utilised by many alternative healers and cultures with rich ancestral traditions. Tibetan singing bows, tuning forks, drumming therapy and even chanting are all used in sound therapy, and many participants experience strong emotions during a session.

Your body is literally humming (very quietly) with energy at specific vibration frequencies. When healthy, you hum at normal rates. When something is wrong, a block of energy either in the physical or energetic, you hum much more quietly and less efficiently.

The healing power of the drum should never be underestimated. The drumming grounds us.
